Need for less screen real estate
When I was talking to our JIRA guy, I more envisioned a bunch of buttons along the top of my screen. Each with the Key and BRIEF summary. Almost like the old TV selectors, I would press it, it would highlight, and that'd be what I was working on. This is a great start towards it, but it takes up way too much screen real-estate. There are only 4 Keys being shown, and a HUGE Notes area that I probably won't use much. I'd like to see an "abbreviated" display option where I can right click and add notes/etc, but in the mean time it only shows as many buttons as I have tasks.

Inappropriate?Hm, that is a clever idea for an interface if I understand you correctly. I have been planning to create an abbreviated interface for a while now. Would you mind sending a mockup of what you are thinking about (maybe using ms paint or something?)

Inappropriate?Trying to upload an image I get "TypeError: 'responseText' is null or not an object" . Tried both PNG and GIF

Inappropriate?Sorry about that. Would you mind sending it to support@worklogassistant.com ?

Inappropriate?I can see how this kind of interface would be appealing but I have one major question: how would you find the issue you wanted to work on? In this kind of interface, you can't really "sort" or maybe you can...
-
Inappropriate?I had a big write up, and I think I accidentally closed the window and lost it.
I'm no GUI person, nor good with graphics, so please excuse.
You'd be able to change the window size as much as you wanted. You'd be able to resize to as many wide and tall as you wanted. Having the option of "Always on top" would be nice too. I'd personally set that, and have it across the top of my screen if it would fit (I have 22 open items currently)
When you mouse over the buttons, the tool tips would show the summary normally seen in the other screen (So my IT-301 is "Assist with the BLOGS project".) You'd be able to right click on the button and see all the normal options with the ability to enter notes then.
People using this mode would have a greater understanding that some functionality wouldn't make sense (Like sorting). You could only sort on the Key up/down/default. It means you'd have to have good Summary to be able to mouse over and find it if you aren't sure of your Key identifiers.

Inappropriate?Too bad you lost the writeup, I would have liked to have read it.
I don't really have much to add besides what you have said. I think this kind of interface /can/ work but it needs to be very carefully designed. Let me chew on it :-) -
All I ask for. Hopefully some people will chime in, maybe clearing up some of the doubt you seem to have. -
No harm in soliciting comments from other users you know :-) -
Inappropriate?I would need more than the keys, and hovering over each box to find out what the summary is, is not appealing to me. Maybe including 20-30 characters of the summary in the box would be helpful.
-
Inappropriate?Yes, I am hovering around the same idea.

Inappropriate?I wanted to do that originally, but SnagIt only went to 8pt. I also wasn't sure that it would be readable in any way (But then again, I'm pretty bad even with large fonts. ;) )
