New release (1.0.1105)
Hi everyone,
A new release of Worklog Assistant is available. The main changes are technical with a couple of bug fixes. You may view the release notes here:
http://worklogassistant.com/releaseno...
My favourite long-time issue has finally been solved: http://gsfn.us/t/3xak . Now Worklog Assistant will correctly detect multiple instances and prompt you. However, as always, this can still be improved further. One such improvement is here: http://gsfn.us/t/8oln . Basically, don't prompt at all, just launch the original instance. If you would like this, please add a vote!
A special thanks to some adventurous users for testing last week's beta. Although no issues were reported, I would not have been able to be as confident as I am now. So, thanks again :-)
Happy time tracking and have a good week!

Inappropriate?Yes; excellent. No point in having multiple instances. On my machine, instances never go away, even though the window and tray icons are not visible. I get the prompt every day until I reboot, which might be weeks, or until I go into Process Explorer and kill the three or four instances manually.
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure I follow completely. Are you saying that you get the multiple prompts now as well?
I suspect the stale processes are due to a thread not exiting properly. I'll investigate that. -
Inappropriate?I guess it is just that "would you like to continue? Yes | No" wasn't clear to me. I didn't realize that "yes" means "go ahead and open a second instance," and "no" means "open the existing instance" (which doesn't work if the window and icon aren't visible due to a previous, incomplete shut down). I don't get multiple prompts, though.
Yes, though, Worklog Assistant continues to run on my XP SP3 machine, whether I close with Alt+F4 (most commonly), Alt+A Q, or click the "X". The window and icon go away, but the process persists.
I start Worklog Assistant up from the command line, if that matters at all. -
I can reproduce this on Linux which is a good thing. Should have a fix in the next release, sorry for the inconvenience! -
I'd also like more clarity on what "continue" means, possibly by changing the button text or message to something more descriptive.
Worklog Assistant is already running. Would you like to run a second copy of the program? (Yes/No)
or something like that. -
Added some text like this yesterday when fixing the above bug. I like yours though. -
Inappropriate?Ok, the latest beta should fix the issues you are seeing with stale processes. You can download it here: http://next.worklogassistant.com/
Please let me know if this helps or not.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate? Also, I've added almost exactly your text Michael, thanks!
-
Inappropriate?A fix has now been propagated to the official release. Thanks for the report!
I’m happy
