it would be nice if the wiki formatting used to markup comments in Jira could somehow be translated to WLA; for example, +*this is a comment*+ would be bold and underlined

Inappropriate?Doing a subset of JIRA's wiki markup should be manageable. It would be hard to support JIRA's full Wiki format though I admit I don't know if it goes much deeper than the above.
Personally, I would also like to see WLA make text that "looks like a URL" be clickable.

knowing the shape of the JIRA apis, I shouldn't ask, but can the back-end do the formatting and give you an HTML stream? -
I don't think the current APIs support this unfortunately. But there is no harm in asking :-)
